Did you read that headline? Read it again.  Getting the BEST price is NOT the end of the story.

Price is just one factor.  To get the best value for your money, make sure all the remodelers get the same information about your project.

Estimates may vary widely.  Here’s one reason:

Fact: When people call around, they often give slightly different (or very different) info to each of the remodelers. So the estimates given often vary widely due to the variable info given to each remodeler.

“How much is your budget?” When asked, how will you answer?

When we ask that question of potential new customers, we get these answers most:

Finished! (deck)
  1. “Our budget? We don’t know.” OR…
  2. “We have no idea.” OR…
  3. “We’d rather not tell you at this point.”

Estimates for projects like kitchens, bathrooms, additions, decks, siding, windows, basements, attics, etc. are budget-based, so you need to have your facts in order before you begin.

Make a LIST of LIKES

What would you like done?   Here’s the best way to compare various remodelers’ services:

  1. Make a list of what you’d like done.  Write it down.
  2. Use that list as your notes, each time, when you speak with each remodeler, to assure a fair comparison.

Should you buy items in advance?

No, and here’s why not:  It is very likely a reputable remodeler has excellent relationships with area suppliers, and gets larger discounts that you simply wouldn’t be offered.  Here are the best steps to take:

  1. Choose the remodeler to provide you with the best value
  2. Talk with the remodeler about the items you’re interested in, before specific items are purchased.

Try these tips as you prepare to “have the talk” with remodelers near you, for an easier, smoother comparison process.
