The RIGHT steps, in the RIGHT order:

In remodeling, before you execute your plan, you need to “do your homework” by creating a “pre-plan” to determine what’s most important.

Here at HRD, Handyworks Remodeling and Design in Wallingford, CT, we’d like to give you the basics of pre-planning any project.  Ready?  Here we go!

Pre-Planning’s 3 Key Steps:
Step 1:  Priorities
Step 2:  Prepare
Step 3:  People

Now:  get ready, get set, let’s fly forward, fast!

Step 1:  PRIORITIES come first

Finished! (basement)

First, walk around INSIDE your home.  List important INSIDE projects (carpet master bedroom, replace oven, tighten staircase railing, etc.).  Then, walk OUTSIDE your home, making your OUTSIDE list (replace gutters, re-paint front doorway, enlarge kitchen window, etc.).

CHOOSING YOUR “TOP THREE”:  Finally, select the top three priorities on your INSIDE list. Number them 1, 2, and 3 (number 1 being most important).  Then, do the same for your OUTSIDE list, numbering the most important priorities 1, 2, and 3.

Congratulations! You’ve just created the priorities for your home this coming season.

TIP:  You may want to also decide whether your INSIDE or OUTSIDE list is top priority.  Then only focus on that one list of 3 priorities, first until those are completed.

Before… (deck)

Step 2:  PREPARE the steps needed

For each priority, ask yourself: What are the STEPS that I need to accomplish this priority?  What has to be done to finish this project?  What do you do first? Are you sure?

Step 3:  Find PEOPLE who know this stuff

Talk with experts …people who do this for a living.   For example, chat with a remodeler to make sure your project is getting off on the right foot, both properly AND professionally.

PS: If you have questions about any step or priority on your list, use the “Input from an Expert” link below.  I’ll be glad to discuss your priorities with you, in person or by phone.

Create your PRE-PLAN’s steps and priorities.  It won’t take you long, honest.  Why not start right now?  When you’re ready, give me a call.  Handyworks Remodeling (HRD) is YOUR home… YOUR style!
